The QNTP is open to postdoctoral researchers currently employed by the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. The primary goal of the postdoctoral component of the QNTP is to provide PhDs with backgrounds in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience or psychology, or MDs with psychiatry or neurology backgrounds and prior research experience in neuroscience, the opportunity to acquire additional formal, quantitative skills that they did not acquire during their doctoral or previous postdoctoral training.

QNTP Requirements

Coursework. Trainees in consultation with their advisers will decide whether they should take required courses, based on the postdoctoral trainee’s background and intended project. For example, it is expected that postdoctoral trainees who come to the program with little or no training in neuroscience will take at least part of the first-year core course.  Furthermore, postdoctoral trainees who need to shore up a particular quantitative skill will take the corresponding relevant courses.

Other Requirements. Apart from the coursework, the features (and requirements) of the training program are the same for postdoctoral trainees as they are for predoctoral trainees: attending and presenting at the QCN Journal Club; attending the PNI Retreat; attending the Neuroscience Seminar, the PNI In-House Seminar, the Clinical Neuroscience Evening Seminar, and a domain-specific seminar (e.g., the Neural Network Modeling Seminar). Trainees will also be required to present their research two times over the two-year period (once at the PNI In-House Seminar or Retreat; and once at a quantitatively-oriented conference). Of these presentations, at least one is required to discuss the relevance of their work to clinical disorders.
